GKL October casino sales fall 21.5% month-on-month

Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) recorded a significant monthly decline in casino revenue in October 2026, as a lower hold ratio offset an increase in customer betting volume. The latest figures show weaker sequential performance, although the company maintained year-on-year growth and remained ahead of its 2025 revenue levels for the first ten months.
GKL reported casino sales of KRW29.28 billion (approximately US$21.7 million) for October, representing a 21.5% decline from September. However, revenue increased 2.5% compared with October 2025, indicating that the monthly setback did not eliminate the operator's annual growth.
The October figures were disclosed in the company's preliminary operating performance filing on November 3. The results cover its casino operations in South Korea, where GKL operates three foreigner-only properties under the Seven Luck brand.
GKL October casino sales reflect lower hold
The principal factor behind the monthly revenue decline was a substantial reduction in the company's hold ratio. GKL's hold ratio dropped to 8.7% in October, compared with 11.5% in September.
The difference is significant because casino sales depend not only on the amount customers wager but also on the proportion retained by the operator through gaming outcomes. A lower hold can therefore reduce reported revenue even when customer betting activity remains relatively strong.
GKL's October casino drop reached KRW336.38 billion, an increase of 3.9% from the previous month. This suggests that the decline in sales was not accompanied by a corresponding contraction in the amount exchanged by customers for gaming chips.
The contrast between higher drop and lower revenue highlights the influence of monthly gaming results on casino operators. October's weaker hold meant that GKL generated less revenue from a larger volume of customer betting activity.
Casino admissions also declined during the month. The company recorded an estimated 71,033 admissions, down 4.6% from September. Compared with October last year, admissions decreased 35.3%.
The combination of lower admissions and a weaker hold ratio contributed to the disappointing monthly sales performance, despite the increase in drop.
Seoul Gangnam property accounts for most of the decline
GKL's Seoul Gangnam casino was the largest contributor to the sequential revenue reduction.
Sales at the property fell 34.9% month-on-month to KRW11.68 billion, equivalent to approximately US$8.7 million. The decline accounted for around 78% of GKL's overall monthly sales reduction.
The concentration of the decline at one property illustrates how individual casino performance can influence the group's consolidated results. Although the company operates across Seoul and Busan, changes in revenue at its major locations can have a considerable effect on monthly performance.
The October results also showed different trends across gaming categories.
Table game sales reached KRW26.09 billion, falling 23.3% from September. Despite the monthly decline, table revenue remained 3.7% higher than in October 2025.
Machine game sales amounted to KRW3.20 billion, representing a smaller monthly decrease of 2.2%. However, machine revenue was also down 6.3% compared with the same period last year.
These figures indicate that table games remained the dominant contributor to GKL's casino revenue, accounting for the majority of October sales. Their stronger year-on-year performance also helped offset the weaker result from machine gaming.
Ten-month casino revenue maintains annual growth
Despite October's monthly setback, GKL continued to report positive cumulative performance for 2026.
Casino sales for the first ten months reached KRW366.52 billion, approximately US$272.3 million, representing an increase of 5.5% compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
Both major gaming categories contributed to the cumulative improvement. Table game sales increased 5.4% year-on-year, while machine game revenue advanced 7.1%.
The figures suggest that the company's broader revenue performance remains positive even as individual months experience considerable fluctuations.
Customer drop also maintained growth over the ten-month period. GKL recorded cumulative drop of approximately KRW3.31 trillion, an increase of 8.7% compared with the same period last year.
The difference between cumulative drop growth and casino sales growth reflects the importance of hold performance in determining the amount ultimately recorded as casino revenue.
For operators, sustained growth in customer activity does not necessarily translate into an equivalent increase in sales. Gaming outcomes, customer composition and the mix of table and machine activity can all influence monthly financial results.
Hold performance remains an important indicator
GKL's October performance demonstrates why casino revenue should be assessed alongside drop, admissions and hold rather than viewed as an isolated measure.
The increase in customer drop indicates that betting volume remained resilient compared with September. However, the decline in admissions and lower hold ratio point to a less favourable operating environment during the reporting month.
The distinction is particularly important when comparing monthly results with annual performance. September's stronger hold ratio provided a higher revenue base, making October's sequential decline more pronounced.
Nevertheless, the 5.5% increase in cumulative casino sales indicates that GKL has maintained positive revenue momentum across the first ten months of the year.
The next reporting periods will provide further insight into whether the October decline represents temporary volatility in gaming outcomes or a more persistent change in operating performance.
For now, GKL's latest figures present a mixed picture: lower monthly revenue, stronger customer drop and continued year-on-year growth in cumulative casino sales. The company's ability to maintain that annual progress will depend on customer activity and the stability of its hold performance in the remaining months of 2026.
