Wildz Group says it has received Finland’s first gambling licence ahead of the country’s planned transition to a competitive online gambling market in July 2027. The Malta-based operator announced that Finland’s National Police Board granted its application, positioning the company among the earliest confirmed entrants preparing for the regulatory change.

The reported approval carries a five-year term beginning on 1 July 2027, when the new licensing framework is scheduled to take effect. However, the regulator has not publicly confirmed the decision, meaning the announcement currently relies on information provided by the company.

The development offers an early indication of how operators are preparing for Finland’s market opening, which will introduce licensed competition in parts of a gambling sector historically dominated by state-owned Veikkaus.

Wildz Finland gambling licence awaits public confirmation

Wildz Group announced that it had received notification of the licence on 15 October 2026. The company described the outcome as an important milestone following its application process and said it was preparing for the upcoming market launch.

The approval, as described by the operator, would allow the group to offer gambling services to Finnish players once the new framework becomes operational. It does not mean the competitive market has already opened or that the company can begin operating under the future licence before its effective date.

The National Police Board, which oversees the current licensing process, has not released a public confirmation of Wildz Group’s approval. Consequently, the company’s announcement should be distinguished from an independently published regulatory decision.

The lack of public confirmation also leaves questions about the wider application process unanswered. It is not yet clear how many other applicants have received decisions or whether authorities intend to publish a register identifying successful operators before the launch.

Finland prepares to introduce licensed competition

Finland is restructuring its gambling system to permit licensed operators to compete in specified online gambling categories. Applications opened on 1 March 2026, giving international companies an opportunity to seek authorisation ahead of the planned July 2027 start.

Under the new arrangement, eligible online gambling activities will move into a licensing model. Veikkaus will retain exclusive rights over certain products, including lotteries and land-based casino gaming, rather than losing its position across the entire gambling sector.

The change is expected to reshape competition for Finnish customers. Operators entering the market will need to satisfy the applicable licensing requirements and comply with the new regulatory framework, including rules governing marketing and consumer protection.

The transition also creates a preparation period for companies seeking to establish their operations before launch. Licence decisions can influence commercial planning, staffing, partnerships and arrangements with technology suppliers.

For Wildz Group, the reported approval provides a potential advantage in planning for the new market. Nevertheless, its practical value will depend on the final scope of the authorisation and the requirements that apply when the framework takes effect.

Wildz Group prepares its brand portfolio

Wildz Group operates several online casino brands, including Wildz, Caxino, Wheelz, Spinz, Chipz, Tuplaus and Blingi. Its portfolio also includes the Wildz Sports sportsbook.

The group is based in Malta and was established by Finnish gaming executives. Its existing portfolio gives it a foundation for preparing a market-specific offering as Finland moves towards the new licensing system.

Tuplaus is particularly relevant because of its Finnish-language identity and familiarity among local players. However, the reported licence announcement does not establish which individual brands will ultimately operate under the authorisation.

The group’s preparations will therefore involve more than securing regulatory approval. It will need to determine how its products, customer services and marketing activities fit within Finland’s requirements and how its brands will be positioned when licensed competition begins.

Chief executive Sam Brown welcomed the reported outcome, describing it as recognition of the team’s work during the application process. He also highlighted the group’s focus on the scheduled July 2027 launch.

The company’s public announcement signals its intention to enter the market, although commercial plans and brand participation should not be treated as confirmed until further details become available.

Licensing demand increases ahead of launch

Interest in Finland’s new regime has grown since applications opened. Reporting in September indicated that the National Police Board had received 75 applications by 22 September 2026. Subsequent Finnish reporting cited a higher total of 78 applications in October.

These figures refer to applications, not necessarily 78 separate operators or approved licences. A company may submit more than one application, depending on the authorisations it seeks.

The application process carries a fee of €29,000 per application, adding to the financial commitment required from businesses preparing to enter the market. Applicants must also provide the documentation necessary for authorities to assess their suitability and reliability.

The regulator previously estimated that processing applications would take around six months. The workload includes reviewing documents and, where necessary, requesting additional information from applicants.

Wildz Group’s announcement is therefore an early public milestone, but it does not establish the status of the remaining applications. Other operators will need to await their own decisions before they can make comparable claims about their authorisation.

What the reported approval means for 2027

Securing a licence ahead of market opening can give an operator greater certainty when preparing its entry strategy. It may support decisions involving recruitment, supplier arrangements, customer service and local commercial partnerships.

However, receiving approval does not guarantee market share or commercial success. Operators will still face competition, regulatory obligations and the challenge of attracting customers in a market undergoing structural change.

Marketing restrictions will also influence how companies reach consumers. Businesses will need to align their promotional strategies with the channels and practices permitted under Finland’s new rules, rather than assuming that approaches used in other jurisdictions will be available locally.

The regulator’s handling of the remaining applications will be another important factor. Further publicly disclosed approvals could provide a clearer picture of the competitive field before July 2027, particularly if more companies announce their decisions independently.

For now, Wildz Group has publicly claimed the first confirmed licence in the emerging Finnish market, while independent regulatory confirmation remains outstanding.

The scheduled opening date remains 1 July 2027. Until then, the licensing process and the publication of further decisions will help determine how Finland’s new competitive online gambling market takes shape.
