Missouri casino revenue rises 5.5% as slots gain

Missouri’s casino market recorded higher revenue in September 2026, as stronger slot performance outweighed a downturn in table games. The state’s casinos generated about $165.1 million for the month, a 5.5% increase compared with September last year, according to figures attributed to the Missouri Gaming Commission. Slots accounted for $143.6 million, while table games produced $21.4 million. Those figures are rounded, so they may not add exactly to the reported total.
The split between the two gaming categories is the central feature of the latest results. Slot revenue rose 7.6% year on year, commonly rounded to 8%, while table-game revenue fell 6.5%, or roughly 7%. The overall gain therefore depended heavily on electronic gaming devices rather than a broad-based increase across casino offerings.
Missouri casino revenue growth rests on slots
Slot machines generated the large majority of September casino revenue, at $143.6 million. The year-on-year increase points to a stronger month for the category, helping offset weaker results from table games such as blackjack, roulette and poker variants offered at casino properties.
The table-game total of $21.4 million was down from the comparable period a year earlier. The figures show contrasting performance within the same market, but do not by themselves explain why players’ spending or casino win shifted between categories. Possible influences such as visitation, game mix, promotional activity and individual property performance would require additional data before any one factor could be identified as the cause.
The results should also be read as casino revenue, rather than total customer spending or operator profit. Gaming revenue generally reflects the amount retained by casinos from wagering activity before operating costs and other expenses. It does not reveal the profitability of each property, nor does a monthly increase alone establish a longer-term trend.
Ameristar St. Charles leads the state
Ameristar St. Charles was Missouri’s highest-grossing casino in September, reporting approximately $25.7 million in adjusted gross revenue, up about 10.3% year on year. River City followed with $21.8 million, while Hollywood Casino generated $21.6 million. Ameristar Kansas City reported $17 million, rounding out the leading group cited in the monthly results.
These figures illustrate how revenue was distributed among the state’s casino properties. Ameristar St. Charles maintained the top position for the month, while River City and Hollywood Casino remained close to one another in reported revenue. The data do not, however, indicate that the leading properties shared the same balance between slots and table games.
Argosy Riverside posted one of the strongest increases, with revenue rising 15% to $13.9 million. St. Jo Frontier and Century Casino Caruthersville also recorded year-on-year gains of around 13%, while Horseshoe St. Louis increased by about 8.6%. Their growth suggests the overall result was not confined to the single highest-grossing casino.
Several properties moved in the opposite direction. Century Casino Cape Girardeau reported approximately $5.3 million, down 4.8%. Isle of Capri Boonville fell 3.6% to around $7.6 million, and Harrah’s Kansas City declined 1.7% to about $14.7 million. These decreases were relatively limited compared with the gains reported by a number of other casinos, but they show that the statewide increase was not universal.
What the September figures show and what they do not
The month’s results point to two simultaneous developments: growth in the largest gaming category and softer table-game revenue. Since slots contributed the bulk of casino revenue, their increase was sufficient to offset the decline in table games and support a positive statewide comparison.
For operators, the category split may be useful when reviewing product performance, staffing and floor allocation. However, the published totals alone cannot establish whether the change reflects a shift in customer preference, different visitation patterns, changes in the number of active games or other operating factors. Such conclusions would require more detailed property-level and category-level reporting.
The casino rankings also offer a snapshot rather than a definitive measure of annual performance. A single month can be affected by calendar differences and short-term changes, while year-to-date figures provide a wider view of how each property is performing over time. The available September reporting noted year-to-date revenue figures for some leading casinos, but a full comparison would require consistent figures for every property and the same reporting period.
Regulatory data remains important to market analysis
The Missouri Gaming Commission’s financial reporting provides a basis for tracking activity across the state’s licensed casino sector. Its casino financial reports include monthly financial information, market analysis, summary reports and daily activity data. Those materials can help analysts distinguish monthly changes from broader patterns, although the underlying report should be consulted when exact classifications or property-level figures are needed.
For the September period, the headline is straightforward: Missouri casino revenue increased, but the gain was powered by slots while table games weakened. Ameristar St. Charles led individual properties, and several smaller operators posted strong percentage growth. At the same time, declines at three casinos underline that performance varied across the market.
The next monthly reports will help show whether the slot-led pattern continues or whether table games recover. Until further figures are available, September’s results are best treated as a positive month for aggregate casino revenue, not proof of a sustained industry-wide acceleration. The distinction matters for interpreting the data accurately and avoiding conclusions that the monthly totals alone cannot support.
