West Virginia’s sports betting and iGaming activity rose 16% in August 2026 to $922.1 million, with both regulated sectors posting double-digit growth.

West Virginia recorded $922.1 million in combined sports betting and iGaming wagers in August, marking a 16% increase and extending growth across both segments of the state’s regulated online gaming market.

The figure was reported by Gaming Intelligence, which said both sports betting and iGaming recorded double-digit growth during the month.

The performance highlights continued activity in West Virginia's regulated online gaming sector, where the state permits both internet casino gaming and digital sports wagering.

West Virginia sports betting and iGaming post broad-based growth

The August result is notable because growth was recorded across both sports betting and iGaming, rather than being driven by only one vertical.

West Virginia’s combined wagering volume increased from the previous reporting period to reach $922.1 million. Based on the reported 16% increase, the comparable prior-period total was approximately $794.9 million.

The calculation is derived from the reported August total and percentage increase and is presented only as an arithmetic comparison rather than as a separately reported official figure.

The latest performance also comes as West Virginia continues to operate a mature regulated online gaming framework. The West Virginia Lottery says the state introduced sports wagering in fiscal 2018, following passage of Senate Bill 415, while iGaming was authorized in fiscal 2020 through House Bill 2934.

Under the state's framework, existing racetrack casinos and the Greenbrier historic resort hotel can offer interactive gaming through authorized providers. The Lottery also oversees sports wagering under the West Virginia Sports Wagering Act.

iGaming remains an important part of West Virginia's online market

West Virginia's iGaming market has continued to generate substantial wagering and gaming activity.

Independent reporting based on West Virginia Lottery weekly figures put August iGaming revenue at approximately $40.9 million, up 24.7% from August 2025. Those figures are based on the Lottery's weekly reporting methodology rather than a separately published monthly report.

The distinction between wagering volume and revenue is important. The $922.1 million figure represents betting activity across sports and iGaming, while gaming revenue represents the amount retained by operators after payouts and therefore should not be treated as equivalent to total wagers.

The West Virginia Lottery provides separate weekly reporting for iGaming and sports wagering, including interactive wagering data by skin and casino and sports wagering data by skin and casino.

Regulated US market continues to expand

West Virginia's latest results add to broader evidence of continued activity in regulated US online gaming markets.

The state is one of the US jurisdictions that permits both real-money iGaming and online sports wagering. Its regulatory structure places the West Virginia Lottery at the center of market oversight, licensing and reporting.

For operators, suppliers and technology providers, the August performance reinforces the importance of established regulated markets where online casino gaming and sports betting can operate alongside one another.

The latest figures also arrive ahead of the traditional autumn sports calendar, when major US sporting competitions can influence wagering activity. However, the August figures themselves should be viewed independently of later seasonal performance.

For international gaming businesses monitoring the US market, West Virginia therefore remains a useful smaller-market indicator of how regulated sports betting and iGaming can develop within a state-level framework.
